Avoca Museum, 1514 Main St., Altavista, will hold its annual Town Appreciation Day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2. The event will feature self-guided tours of the historic mansion and gardens, a wine and cheese reception and the debut of new additions to the museum’s collections, including a sword owned by Gen. James G. Dearing, an oil painting of Charles Henry Lynch and other family-related items. Town Appreciation Day will be followed at 3 p.m. by a lecture on Gen. William Campbell, presented by Museum Director Michael Hudson. Admission is free.
